While I hate to see it happen, can you blame the seller? I am sure the car was not worth $4500 trade in if not for cash for clunkers. It makes sense if you were already going to do it anyway
I do not see how that vehicle was considered a clunker. Thanks Obama. I hope he has nothing but trouble with his NEW vehicle. I hate to see things like this.
Interesting videos. I am pretty ignorant about the Cash for Clunkers program. Can anyone tell me if this is the officially sanctioned method of permanently disabling these vehicles? Ie: a final, orgasmic spewing of pollution into the open air in order to get rid of polluting, poor mileage vehicles?
Or are we just seeing a bunch of good ol' boys having some fun?
Final question - what did the guy pour into the crankcase at the begining? I assume varsol, paint thinner, or something like that to ruin the oil?

Sodium Silicate...they drain the oil and replace with the sodium silicate and run it till it wont idle anymore and the engine is toast
Absolutely...take a vehicle such as this truck that probably got in the 16-18mpg range (20 mixed driving) and then waste the energy and resources of hauling it on a big rig that pollutes much worse to a crushing yard where the machines there pollute like none other. Then have it crushed and end up with a 4000lb paperweight that will sit in a yard for years and years in essence polluting the earth as well since its not going to break down. That damn truck had tons of life left and they just brick the damn thing. Sounds like a great plan to me

it still will live on in its later life... as a brand new hyundai lol
Common sense says that if THIS is a good plan, we should hire people to break windows so we can replace them with dual paned, tear down our houses so we can replace them with 'energy efficient' homes.
Don't these watermelons realize how much energy it takes to make new cars and trucks? Don't they realize that the marginal improvement in fuel mileage will take years to offset the energy wasted in replacing functional vehicles? Don't they realize that someone, somewhere is driving an OLDER, more polluting, less fuel efficient vehicle because he cannot afford a 94 Ranger?

Reason: taking out politics
There are still plenty of truck out there. You'all have got at least one, and now that there are a few less, your's might be worth a little more. My 1999 is worth a around 600 more since this program started.
