Checked the emission specs for my truck when new, 91 4.0L 250,000 km (150, miles) and funny thing it MATCHES a 2008 F150!!!!! Same with the fuel economy, they should only accept vehicles that have more pollution then their comparable new vehicle.
guys leave the politics out of it and especially nasty threatening comments.
I had to delete several posts and don't like having to do that so consider this the warning.
I will leave the thread for discussion though.
The only reason i posted this vid is because of all the TLC that i and others give our little trucks and the trouble some of us have keeping the older ones running well and looking good.
It just HURT to see a good looking and seemingly good running ranger being destroyed on purpose.
I myself enjoy my 94 and will continue to drive and repair as needed until there is nothing left to fix. 207K and counting!!
This is a 1:40 video if a 2001 Mazda B3k 5-speed.
Perfectly good truck with 75k miles is destroyed. I shouted at the stupidity.
I counted the seconds before it seized. SEVEN seconds. That engine was perfect. I could have put it in my Sable with 250K miles and improved emissions and fuel economy.
Someone driving a 198x Ford F150 with a V8 could have traded for that,
and got 20% better gas mileage, but NO, our farsighted geniuses in DC
know better. It would NOT have qualified for C4C until EPA changed the ratings from 19 to 17.
Yah, lets do this a lot. Destroy stuff. Makes perfect sense to me. Not.
I have worked my whole life fixing things, such as my vehicles, my dishwasher, my washer, my dryer, the clock in my oven. To purposefully destroy things just goes so against my grain that I literally shouted out "no!" when I saw what was happening. I could not look at any more of these.
Now that Mazda looked like a real nice truck with a lot of years left on it. Wonder what type of gas mileage it got for it to qualify? I'm sure with only 75,000 on it, it was barely broke in.
The 2001 Vulcan Ranger/B was rated at 15?/22 when built. The 'new' EPA rating imposed in July/August lowered the combined from 19 to 17, thus qualifiying for C4C.
This plan is unbelievably insane. Someone with a perverse mind created this monstrosity.

That was just a lazy owner with apparently too much money. An 01 with only 75k on it is NOT worth less than $4500, I mean really. He threw away money by not at least attempting to sell it. Regardless of whether you agree with the plan, it was designed for cars that were worth LESS than the credit, not more.
I worked for the wood products industry for 20 some years and am now unemployed because of the housing industry/mortgage collapse.................Maybe we should start burning down houses to stimulate our industry, makes about as much sense as destroying perfectly good vehicles.
There should have been a dealers discretion on whats a clunker and whats not, that Mazda was definitely NOT a clunker................It should have gone back on the market, and the cust. gotten fair trade in value instead of gov. handout credit.

Wow, that is horrible!!! That engine looked better than my engine! 75K and you trade it in so you can get a new Prius or something and put yourself further in debt! Yeah, real smart move. My ranger is at 135K and counting and I never even came close to making that decision! Call me crazy but I enjoy not having a truck payment every month. One of this country's biggest problems is people being in debt up to their eye ***** so let's just destroy perfectly good vehicles and add to that problem even further. I'd rather keep maintaining my truck the best I can as long as I can! That way I can keep coming on here pestering you guys whenever I have something that needs worked on!
Well, at least the guys destroying the Mazda were remorseful and sincerely upset about it, not the like video of the rednecks with the Ranger whooping it up.
And, before people get too upset, realize that while we've seen a few videos of apparently nice vehicles getting destroyed, no one is filming all the other real clunkers that are rusted out pieces of ***** - some of which don't even need their engines destoyed because they already run so poorly.
How many clunkers have been traded in - are there 700,000 or more? Are we up to a million yet? So, 5 or 6 nice examples, divided by 700,000, hmmmm, let's see now ....., carry the one ... well, you guys can figure it out. Even if you bump up the number of "nice clunkers" to a few thousand, its still no contest.
Actually Darryl if you look at the list, seems the ford Explorer is leading the pack.
Most of the people that have the real clunkers you are describing can't afford to buy a new vehicle, thus it's the people that have fairly decent vehicles that have low trade in valvue such as the ones in the video's that are benefiting from this. This is where C4C falls flat. the people with the clunkers you described that really NEED to be destroyed would be the people that would have bought a major number of the C4C program cars and then sent the real junk to the crusher. Instead we will now have those on the road for another couple years.
