I think I have a posessed transmission. Lately my tranny started spewing oil from the front pump when towing and my OD light started flashing. So I pulled and rebuilt the tranny with a shift kit and fitted a super low stall speed converter. That lasted 2 weeks until the overdrive sun gear lost a tooth and took out the overdrive planetary gear set and filled the case with shrapnel. I did the job again, all good until the OD light started flashing and the ABS light started coming on. Now what ,I thougt, so I checked and replaced the fuel pump lever position sensor and adjusted to specs. All lights now off and shifts are smoother but the transmission now has late upshifts under part throttle around 2300 to 2600 rpm which it never used to, even with the new converter which isnt so bad if you want to spend your whole life at a gas station. Has anyone ever had this problem with their diesel E40d trucks?
Code 23 kept coming up which is the tps out of range, oddly enough it still comes upafter replacement, but not when you self test for trans codes. A friend has a 92 7.3/E40d and I tested his and his also brings up this code but his trans is ok. strange? After the second rebuild I also changed the solenoid pack to another one both have the early style wiring plug connectors. Could this play a part in my late up shifts? My solenoid plastic cover is cream coloured where as the new one I fitted is green, I dont know if this makes any difference or whether it is just an aftermarket one.
Yes, that would explain why code 23 always comes up on both these trucks. I think I might change back to my solenoid pack when I go into the work shop this weekend and see what happens, I will let you know how I go.
Cheers
