head dowels
This is a question for anyone who has had a headgasket go on there 6.0. My truck has 155000KM tested for exhaust gas in coolant, positive test. I took my truck to a good shop for the repair and talked to them half way into the job. The shop owner, machanic imformed me one of the head dowels was missing thus problems in that area. Have had truck since new so came this way from factory. Anyone heard of this or had the same issue.

I doubt it was missing from the factory, as the head gasket stays put on the dowels during assembly, otherwise it would be a bitch getting the head put on. But I guess anything is possible. Quite often a dowel will stay in the old gasket, block or the head. Maybe got pitched with the old gasket???

Never seen it and I have done my fair share of head gaskets. More than likely it fell out when they were lifting the head. Regardless if they got the headgaskets from Ford, it should've come with new dowels and stand pipes with the new headgaskets.
