Hi, I bought a Fleetguard Fuel Filter PN is FS1979700 2165 for my Ford 6L 2006. Is this the right thing? It is different from the one that was on. The one that is on my truck is a black filter without the membrane. The Fleetguard is a Beige filter with the outer membrane.
Last winter I had a frozen filter, do you know if the membrane would help or not icing.
The membrane serves a very important role in removing water from the fuel. You should not run a filter without it. I have not looked over the fleetguard filters enough to be convinced that they are OEM filters or not, but by your brief description it "sounds" like they are.
The black one without membrane is definitely not correct.
The tan one with membrane is cosmetically correct. But that doesn't mean it is. Primeguard has one that looks the same, but is made in Taiwan. Is it okay? I dunno, but I ain't taking a chance.
My advice is to find a genuine Motorcraft, Racor, or International product.

Stick with Racor made filters and be safe. Starve the engine of fuel and you lose injectors. Motorcraft or IH. A few more bucks initially, a lot cheaper in the long run. The choice is yours. Do You Feel Lucky.
I bought the Fleetguard Filter at the international Dealer
That does not necssarily mean it is a Racor filter. I have seen Luberfiner oil filters sold at the International Dealership and they are not the ones best fitted for the 6.0L.

Ask for these and you can not go wrong:
International...1847170C93
For the record, the best price I've found...at any time...for fuel filters has been at an International dealership. Ed (the Parts Guy) had some white box filters last fall that were cheaper, and the right ones...but some forum posts earlier this year gives me the impression his supplier has changed the filters on him. That part number Bismic gives raises some eyebrows at the parts counter...but stick to your guns; if they ask tell 'em it for an old school bus that you converted to an RV. If they want to know the VIN, tell 'em you'll have to bring it with you next time. That's what I did when they started asking question about where I came up with that part number...without their help.
