66 Ford F100 automatic with 353 engine

The 66 Ford F100 I just bought has a automatic. In the mornings the automatic sometimes when setting still, will go out of gear and then bang back into gear, then does better when it warms up. Any idea what the problem could be? It has a 352 engine. Does it have filter? I haven't check the tran to see if it needed fluid.

Thanks

If it were mine, I would start with a base line, change the filter and fluid. That way you know that everything is good. Then if it still gives you trouble, check that the modulator is got good vacumn or if needed you can have the bands ajusted.
