Last week I asked for help on here with the intire right bank out on my "96 PSD. cuda_jim suggested removing the IDM and it had water in it. The local Ford Dealer wanted $949.98 +tax and exchange for a rebuilt one, then he said I needed to check with the service guy and have it reprogrammed for $195.00. OUCH! I called the guys at "swamp donkey diesel" and they told me you don't re program this part. I think the dearler guy was running a scam on me. Anyway swamp donkey said they could send me one for $300.00 stock or a 140v for $450,00. As good as that sounds I have a friend that runs an electronic repair shop and he repaired it cheap! My "96 is purring like a kitten! Tomorrow I think we will change it to a 140v. If you folks need help maybe he can fix your IDM. Thanks Jim.
Mine went bad less than a year after I bought my '97 and before I knew of this site's existence.
Being ignorant in matters of the IDM, I ended up paying the $850 for a new one.
I still have the old one. Maybe I'll send it to exchange for a 140v version. I am not afraid to open one up and solder in the resistor, but if someone were willing to do that for me for, say $40 or so, I'd just as soon do it that way so I can just swap 'em and have no down-time on the truck.
Let me know if your buddy is interested.
