i6 question

hello. i'm a noob to this forum. i am thinking about buying an 84 f150 swb with a 300 i6 in it for $750. It has auto without overdrive. what trans did ford use for the 300? i have googled and it seems like a c6 but am not sure. Also, the truck has what looks like an emission pipe under the carb that is not hooked up and is blowing out hot air. engine runs good with no ticks or knocks other than the crappy idle due to the emission prob. Is it easy to just do away with the emission stuff ? am thinking about buying it and putting an offy or clifford intake on it; depending on which is the better choice. any info or links to other threads would be appreciated.

here's a thread about the intakes.
someone else will chime in about the emissions stuff and what transmission you could possibly have.

I'm with you though, C6 seems to be a very popular one for the trucks of our age.

i think that emissions thing your talking about is the heat riser for the carb and here is a link to see what transmission you have go to http://lmctruck.com and click on the year of the truck and go to page 9 and look in the bottom right hand corner and you can tell what trans you have by the number of bolts and shape of the transmission pan.
