I bought a bed mat for my 09 Superduty and it came with a tailgate mat. I like the bed mat but the tailgate mat is a different story. It came with alot of washers and screws. I will not drill holes in my tailgate. Does anyone make a tailgate mat that uses the factory bolts or something other than drilling holes? Thanks!
I have never seen any and I agree, I wouldn't use a rubber tailgate mat because of the screws. The two suggestions I have are plastic tailgate protectors like the ones that come with bedliners and Spray on material, I suspect the spray on dealers wouldn't charge too much to do just a tailgate.
If you absolutely must have the rubber tailgate mat, cut a sheet of metal and remove the linkage cover from the tailgate. Use the linkage cover to template out the bolt holes. Then bolt the metal to the tailgate and bolt the mat to the metal.
You can purchase velcro for commercial applications (not like they have in the fabric stores), similar to what bedrug uses and it should work fine. Thin strip type magnets glued to the mat should work well also.
On the velco, you're not looking for "velco", it's actually a hook and hook closure system. The good stuff doesn't have the carpet like strip, it hooks back on to the same material which is really stiff little hooks. Also pick up a bottle of rubbing alcohol to prep the area the tape is going to adhere to.
