Well, like the title says, I'm in one of those spots. I have found this ridiculously awesome truck on craigslist. It has everything I want. Extended cab, 3/4 ton, I love the look, runs and drives, etc., and it's only $2500! That's actually in my budget!!! Yeah! Throw a party! Wait a minute. Put the streamers away. It's a 2WD. Now, this is one hell of a truck, and i think i may have fallen in love with it. (Interesting concept, eh?) But, as it is my first (and will be my only for quite some time) vehicle, I want a 4WD. That is my only problem with this truck. So my question is, how horribly difficult would it be to swap over this 2WD to a 4WD. How much would it run me, and wha else would be altered?
It can be done and has been many times, but it is quite involved, the 2wd and 4wd have different frames.
This very subject was just discussed in this forum within the last week. Do a search and you should be able to find the thread.
I you want to make the drive my neighbor is trying to sell the same truck, but it has 87K on it and the curse and AC still work, its a Camper special to boot. He says half the people that call think it is a 4x4. http://ksu.craigslist.org/cto/1332150104.html
I would hold out for a 4x4 as that is priced kinda high for a 2x4, heck my neighbor can't even get any one to look at his and it is amazingly rust free for a KS truck. You should be able to get a decent 4x4 for that kinda money I only gave $1500 for mine. It will be cheaper and easier to just get the 4x4 than the conversion.

I agree... the price of that 2wd is a little high, especially if you plan on a 4x4 conversion. I have seen running/driving 4x4 ext cabs out here in the $2000's fairly regularly - a few a year anyhow. If I had more room for parking I would have a few more of them!
