if your not in a hurry at all i know were theres a long bed in northern mn. but im not going up there for a few mounths but right after that i will be heading to central mt if your interested i could haul it with and meet ya somewere on a sat.
Yeah that could work, but I'd need to know when you wanted to do it and what the bed would run. I'd hate to have you go through all the effort and have something stupid stop me from being able to do it or something. Let me know, Thanks ^_^
i saw siting in his back yard last year and talked to him he said hed sell it. but when i got close saw it was a 8 ft so that ended it. but we have some work up there agian so i'll stop and ask what he wants. dont think it'll be much no fenders though. and getting it to ya would be a fun weekend road trip.
I've got a long box off a 56 F250 sitting on my trailer right now. Eventually I'm going to be stretching it to around 11 feet long for my Frankenstein of a truck project. So if you need any specific measurements just let me know what you need.
Here's a picture of the truck before I stripped it.
lol finally find a rare bed and you're going to lenghten it? lol, why not just use a shortbed and lenghten it a little more? (lol don't mind me, I just cant' find what I'm looking for :P)
Of all the things I have built in my hot rodding lifetime, the bed on my 55 was probably the easiest project I've done. No compound curves to form, nothing that requires an english wheel, nothing to stretch or shrink. Straight cuts, a few angles and a bunch of welding. Pitshop and some others on this site have built thier own beds and I'm fairly sure that they will agree that it was pretty easy. You can build the entire bed for less than you might think and you will have all the custom touches that you desire.(length, height, etc...)
I have less than $500 in mine and that includes the tailgate, and the 2 rollpans. I like working on new metal much better than trying to work with old rusty bent up parts. I had an old bed, but I saw more work in it than building a new one. I've progressed quite a bit further along than the photos show, but haven't had time to roll it out and take pictures.

I needed the F250 long box because it's taller and wider. It will fit my wider 84 F250 chassis better then a 1/2 ton box would. If it makes you feel any better I probably won't be using the box sides. I'm most likely going to make new sides out of some nice clean new metal. My box is pretty beat up and rusty so I'm mainly using it for parts ( front panel, tailgate, fenders ) . But the old box is a good template. I'm going to use it for all the measurements ( except length ) .

Good looking bed! I remember it cause I have teh exact same wheels on my Mustang, spinners and all
That price include your fenders too, or are those those wider aftermarket glass ones?
I think it would be an easy enough project, I'm just a little time and money crunched at the moment for it. Plus I need to find some measurements too, like how tall even just the sides of the bed would be (it effects material costs, sheets come in 4x8', but then like 6x10 and they get a lot more expensive. Thus I need to figure out how tall it will be plus the lengths of the bent pieces on the top and bottom...) I think it would be easier to build one than fix one, especially given trying to find one. The problem is I need to get some measurements to do that (I haven't really asked yet because I wasn't sure on what I was going to do and I'd hate for someone to do all of that to find I didn't need it)

Andrew you did a great job on that box!
lol thats why I like long beds better, being taller and wider just look better in my opinion...
