e4od swap

i have a 1991 f-150 4x4 with a bad tranny. and my buddy has a 1994 4x4 f-150 that he took out the auto and put a 4 speed in. someone told me that the two trannys are not the same since one push button overdrive is in the dash and the other is in the gear shifter is there any difference? and as far as i know they both a the e4od

The one with the OD-D on the shifter is an AOD, not an E4OD.

The one with the push button OD is either an AODE or an E4OD. Neither one is a direct replacement for an AOD.

ok but if i have the AODE or the E40D can i swap the AOD in place of one of them are will the computer stuff not work?? and would i be able to switch all the computers and stuff around and make it work?

You can switch it all around and make it work. I'm sure it will cost A LOT more than getting the right trans, but anything is possible if you spend enough money.

The trans mount, computer, and the wiring harness. The driveshaft length may need to be changed, too.
