egr cleaned

Got of my procrastinating butt and changed both fuel filters and the cleaned the egr. Yes I took a diesel bath, loved it. I cycled the motor 3 times waiting 15sec inbetween the trk fired on the first crank. Im thinkin my filters were over due pretty black and it was cranking kind of hard. Oh and i left the egr unplugged, no check engine light took it for a 15 min drive seemed just fine.

Good job. Be sure to stay on top of the fuel filter changes. Waiting too long can cause some expensive injector repairs. When you can see the color change and experience an effect on cranking, you are probably past due. I would bet that the CEL will come on eventually. It was a delayed reaction on my 2005 when I tried the same thing. The more you change these filters, the better you get at avoiding the diesel bath (unless you really do enjoy that sort of thing ......)

Foul1 - your EGR valve really did not look too bad. That is a good thing! I have set a schedule of cleaning mine every 30k - just to keep an eye on how the engine combustion is going on. I would bet you were able to remove yours easily - yes?

On another note - do you have a story on your ranchhand bumper? Seems like you might based on your signature. I had a ranchhand on my 7.3L truck and loved it. I won't go into too many crazy details, but I buried my front end in the bottom of a narrow (but deep) ravine on a deer lease. Did almost zero damage to anything important, except it sheared a couple of bumper-mount bolts and broke a leaf spring. It was after I took a feral pig with my bow at 35 yards - I was sort-of happy and not paying attention .......... (oh yeah - love the bumper)

The egr came out hard, used a small screw driver to pry it up enough on one side to get a piece of coat hanger to pull with pulled out same screw driver used it it on the otherside and it came free. Hah only story so far with the deer bouncer, wife tried it out on a pole sign glansing blow 0 damage. With my dodge she ran a pole down the entire bed at the bank drive through....she's banned from the ford hahahah a little intimidated by it too. I like that.
