Has anyone ever repaired the lighting for the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel? If so, where is the source and how do you replace the burned out lights?
One of my dash lights was out. I took it to Ford to have it fixed, this was back when the economy was booming and my wallet was bulging. Ford replaced all the dash lights and the lights on the steering wheel also worked when I got it back. I didn't even know that the buttons lit up. This was in a 2001 Edge 4.0L short bed manual trans.
I have done this with my explorer.............Easiest to just go to the J-yard and pull switches off another truck...............But you can also open up the switches and replace the bulbs with a little patience.
Most junkyard switches are trashed, and the yards want good money for even torn up switches. But you can get the bulbs out without pulling the switches. I find them in both green and blue, so make sure what you need. I AM NOT saying to do this to good switches for just the bulbs, but the beat up ones you can just cut the "soft button cover" with a razor and the bulbs just twist out with a half turn. They are tough sometimes, small pair of pliers or small crescent wrench will save your fingers. Installation is a little more difficult. If you go that route let me know and I can probably come up with a small writeup in the next few weeks.

You are right about that........It seems the wrecking yards go out of their way to destroy the switches when they remove the air bags. It took me quite a bit of searching to find good ones, as for price.........They fit real nice in your pants pocket!......The bulbs were available from Ford not to long ago.
