It is a risk but Ive already run over 100 gallons through it with about 3 gallons of diesel to start it cold. I have forgotten to switch it over to diesel when sitting overnight, and it still started with glows but was hard. I just changed my engine fuel filter and found a bit of black sludge in the water separator portion, so the injection pump might have it in it too gumming things up. Thanks.

Changing the fuel filter and retarding the timing has seemed to fix the smoke. The engine was a bit rattly before, and smoky. Now its got more power, and cleaner. Thank you guys for the advice.

I wasn't being a jerk telling you to change the filter.
I burned a tremendous amount of thicker fuels in my truck...

I had a 26 plate heat exchanger and it kept fuels at roughly 150 degrees with coolant heat alone.
I would also add a second fuel filter (one for each of the fuels burned), and not using the stock 6way pollack valve is nice too.

Sharing a fuel filter with both fuels can get you in trouble.... at least if you have two seperate once, a clogged WVO/WMO filter won't strand you.

The IP timing is set by pressure inside the IP.

So any change in the internal IP pressure will cause the timing to change.
Higher pressure advances timing, lower pressure retards timing.

Running thicker fuels, how much pressure is the lift pump supplying?
How fast is it going though the passages in the IP?
When it goes into the return lines, are they causing the pressure to increase?

Bad thing here, the viscosity of the oil will not be constant as you drive.
Short trips the oil stays thick since it never gets hot.
Long trip the oil gets thinner, the more trips it makes through the IP and injectors the warmer it gets.

Ive noticed that the engine runs quieter on oil then on diesel, so it must be more retarded on oil and less lift pump pressure. But the heavy weight of the oil, and the contaminants might slow down the burn enough to lessen the fuel knock. The fuel filter I kinda knew had to be changed, but I also thought it could have been my cdr since my air hat bolt is soaked in oil, and its using 2 quarts of oil in 4000kms.
