what are my options?

hi! to put it simply, my 93 is on its last breath. theres a 80 sumtin down the road for sale. its a f350 with a 460 in it. its a standard cab with a 10 foot utility box. i was just wondering how much the frame differes from a 87 on frame. can i put a newer cab and front clip on it? if not, can i put a n extended cab on it easily?

well hell, does the utility bed mount the same as a reguar bed?

You can swap cabs, the 87-up are mostly the same, with front bumper mounting differences. When you swap, swap the whole cab and wiring as a assembly, and also the whole front clip and wiring. If you start mixing little things like the wiring or some of the frontend pieces, thats were you run into trouble.

f150 vs f250/f350 frames are different suspension wise, so swapping is not really possible there, but f150 cabs are the same as f250/350 cabs, so body swaps are ok.

You have to be careful when dealing with f350's. Ford made a chassis/cab model which has a different setup from the cab rearward. You are ok from the cab forward, everything is the same, but if it was a chassis/cab from the factory, the rear frame is 4 inches narrower along with the dually rearend being narrow and also the rear springs. Pickup beds will not directly bolt up to a chassis/cab frame, and the dually pickup rearends are 4 inches wider.

how far back does this different rear end start? could i put an extended cab on it?

i figured the bed wouldnt bolt up directly. but will it sit flat on the frame? not "flat" flat but bed-mountable flat.

I am not sure, but the chassis/cab being different probably goes way back to when they started making trucks. They are made to be wreckers, dump trucks, etc, and the frames are heavier.

Someone on here mentioned that some people have mounted a pickup bed on a chassis cab by using a spacers on the cab and the bed to make everything line up.

You know, you can make anything work, but is it worth the time and energy to do it, and what will you have in the end? I just try to alert people of stuff that will not easily bolt on, but anything can be made to work with enough head scratching.

Swapping from extended cabs to regular cabs or the other way around will not work either, since the frames are different, but then again, the head scratching rule applies.

What's the wheelbase on the truck? You'd have to mount the bed with the fenders over the tires and that might not be lined up with the end of the frame.
