Came back from the store today first time driving in a heavy down pour. I wanted to see how the 6637 mod held up in the rain and some 4 to 5 in of flooded road areas going a much slower speed 5-10mph.
Removed the orange boot and saw some water in the tube then looked further to see one bent blade on the turbo.
I know I don't want the blade to come off and down the intake for obvious reasons. What options do I have? Can it be blended at all.
I'll post a pic of it on my avatar for now.
You can do quick rebuild yourself. Replace the wheels on both sides if need be. Not a hard thing to do I would guess. Probably easier than the R and R of the turbo itself. There are kits available.
I don't see how the motor isn't already fubared if water bent the turbo fins?? no way the motor coulda passed that kinda water with out hydro locking and blowing a rod or piston?????

Where can I get replacement parts from just Garett themselves.

I'm not sure I know when I bought the truck it came from Washington state and I took a look at it, didn't see anything wrong with it that was a year ago.
Then drove it home to Norfolk VA from Greenville SC with no issues.
It had the stock airfilter box on it with the pre-screen that was a bit dirty but the filter itself wasn't bad looking.
Hadn't looked at it again til I put the 6637 mod on a few months ago.
Truck starts and runs just fine.
Do need to look at a few things though.

I would think that water would bend more than 1 blade. It looks more like a something hard, like a rock, nut, bolt or??? went through it.
If it ingested enough water to bend the blades the engine should'a come to a screeching halt.
If there isn't any chunks missing or any slop in the impeller you might be able to run it.
Spin it a few times, if it stops in the same place every time then it's out of balance....don't run it.

Even if it isn't out of balance I shouldn't really long it either too long except to put it in front of the garage. Who knows if it'll become out of balance and I'm sure I wouldn't find that out til it's too late.
Either way I'll check that out in the am.
Thanks for your help and I take it my pics can be seen at least on the photo album under bent turbo blade.

Well this morning I went out and spun around 10x. It didn't stop in the same spot which is good. Also upon looking at the boots the side attached to the turbo has a good inch tear on it. The clamp was covering the tear so it could have been there a while.
Thanks for the help again!!!!!!!
Well I checked out the link and seems very good, looking at the price on the homepage at a rebuild for 310 isn't bad at all either. Plus whatever shipping may cost.
The blades don't stop at the same place after spinning it 10x so at least that's good. Also added pics to Bent Turbo Blade on the FTE photo albums.
Found a 1in tear on the boot that was under the clamp.
Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!
That's good news, you probably didn't hurt it too bad. BTW: You can rebuild it yourself...it's not that hard.
The biggest job is removing it from the engine.
Even more good news.....when your turbo is fixed you will notice an significant increase in performance. The bent blade and rip in the boot is holding the engine back.
