Well, I just got a letter from my local ford dealer about a recall on my 2003. I went to the nhtsa.gov website, and no such recall # exists, although they do have my vin # correct. Something seems funky here....any thoughts?
that's the funny part, it doesn't say what the recall actually is, just gives the number--which doesn't match anything on the recall list. Any other thoughts?
Recall # 07S57 is the Cam Position Sensor inspection/replacement. Mine just failed yesterday leaving me stranded on the side of the road and $248 for towing and new sensor installed. For anyone reading this, is there a way to tell by looking at the sensor or the numbers on it if it was the original or a replacement?
its not worth the trouble. Find an old black one and keep it in the glove box and replace it if it happens to go out. Its about a 10 minute job with a 10mm wrence
Indeed, keep a spare on hand at all times! Black causes the motor to be a bit smoother and not cause a error on cylinder 1 and 8, grey lasts longer but is known to cause the motor to run a bit more ruff and causes the error to come up on 1 and 8. Black has a higher failure rate then grey, blue isn't well documented, not that I have found anyhow but ALWAYS keep one on hand.
Agreed 100% They are sometimes tough to find but they can be found. I need to buy a couple more for the shelf. Heck I need to buy another truck for spare parts, you know, just in case :-P
There's a seller on ebay selling used, "certified working" black sensors, but the last time I checked, they only had 5 left.
I bought two sensors from the seller a few weeks ago to have as spares, even though I have a few new ones for both my rigs, but when I received them, one was the blue sensor (looked brand new) and the second sensor was slightly damaged on the face that inserts into the block.
The seller quickly sent me two replacement sensors and told me to keep the messed up black one and the blue one.
