Door Courtesy Lights
The fun all started with fuse #14 blowing. Was able to keep the fuse from blowing by removing the interior light relay. Finally was able to resolve the ground to the passenger side door. I disconnect the connector behind the kick panel and no blown fuse. Was albe to resolve it a little bit further to the courtesy lamps installed that are installed in the door panels. Didn't realize but niether the driver or passenger courtesy lamp is currently working - not sure when they died. Measuring across this circuit at the lamp holder in the passenger door shows a resistance of ~45 ohms, whereas the driver side is 0.3 ohms. Interesting this is the same ground used for the the power mirror, door lock, window motor and is not causing an issue with these components and I am not sure why - probably just a matter of time.
All other lights on this circuit are working. This circuit is split up to power the engine compartment light, glove box light, map lights from the non-relay side and then the cargo light, dome light, and courtesy lights from the interior light relay side. All lights except the courtesy lights are working...as long as the with passenger side courtesy light power remains disconnected at the kick panel.
I have checked out the wiring in the passenger door and believe it to be good. Power and ground on driver side door also appears to be good at less than 0.2 ohms each. No break in the flex / boot area. The black with blue wire suppling power to the lamp has good resistance on the passenger door, ~0.2 ohms, when measured from the plug at the passenger side kick panel to the lamp holder. However the ground on this door appears to be hosed ~45 ohms whereas the driver side is 0.2. The interesting / weird / anomally about this side is that the ground wire does not go through the previously mentioned connector in the kick panel. It comes from across the top of the glove box and drops down and then joins the other wiring from the plug and goes to the boot to the door. Where does this (solid black wire) ground come from? Does it come from the GEM? Where does the power and grounds for passenger and driver side courtesy lights split?
I believe that the cargo and dome use a chasis ground where they are mounted and for some reason the courtesy lights have a ground wired to them.
Thoughts????
