First off, I can't say I care for the name at all.
You got a VIN number? Door tag?
I know that in the early-mid 70s the base engine was the six (I think it was the 240 in 73 and 74, the 300 from 75 to ??). I also know that the gas six was completely phased out of the medium duty market by 1980- with the 370-2V V8 as the base engine in the new body style that stuck around until 1994.
I'm inclined to say that the base engine beginning in mid '77 was the 330HD and by mid '78 was probably the 370-2V, but I am not entirely sure. If you could order one from the factory with a 300 in '79, it seems like not many people did.
