Remote Starter Recomendation
The factory Ford accessory systems work good, they are made by Code Alarm. I got the Ford system with remote start, alarm, and keyless entry on my new 09 truck. It comes with new 6-button remote key fobs. The other Ford system available is just a basic remote starter and it comes with just a 1-button remote fob, meaning that you still have to carry around your factory keyless entry fob.
I actually have an extra system for sale here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/classifi...t/28062/cat/55
You also need to get a PATS bypass kit for the remote start to work. The bypass kit acts like a key is in the ignition in order to remote start it.
I had the factory systems in my last 2 trucks and they always worked flawlessly.
It can be installed yourself but it is quite a job. The factory install instructions are available online. It is not a simple plug and play, you have to splice or even cut into the factory wiring. There's probably around 20 or so wires to connect. (the basic 1-button remote starter kit appears to have a small plug-in harness that cuts down on some of the wiring)
There are many aftermarket systems out there too of which their main advantages include further operating remote range, and 2-way confirmation (a signal is sent back to the remote fob display to tell you if the the car was started or if the alarm was tripped).

the factory Ford install documents can be found here if you want to see what's involved:
http://www.fordaccessoriesstore.com/GfaWeb/techSpecs.do
just select "Installation Instructions", then "Electronics", then "Remote start/vehicle security system - Truck", this is for the 6-button fob remote start/alarm instructions.
A list of pdf files will come up and you can find the 2009 year/F150 in there.
or select "Remote Start System - Truck" to see the basic remote starter kit, looks like it is more DIY friendly, but again you would have to carry around 2 remote fobs.
the Ford systems can be set for 10 or 15 minute run times.

I put a viper 5701 by DEI in my truck and I'm happy with it, sometimes the remote gets a little annoying because I think they chose aesthetics over function, the buttons are really easy to activate while in your pocket. Fortunately it does have an auto lock function that keeps it from doing much but give an error tone when you bump it.
This is not for your average do it yourselfer, It took me about 16 hours to completely install it the way I wanted it and I have an extensive electronics background, though admittedly it was about 10*F, slowing progress, and I added some extra doo-dads. If you can afford it I’d leave it to a professional.
