There is a company called Commando Products(IIRC), they make a remote starter that has what they call the anti freeze mode. This will automatically start your engine up to every 2 hours if you wanted. I'm looking for a link now

Here is their website Kenny. I would give them a call. I couldn't find it but I know that they make them.

Car Alarms, remote car starters & keyless entry

Kenny....my remote start is also an alarm and I LOVE it. It's a Python. Not sure of my model number because it was installed a few years back.
It has great range, and you can start the truck from inside your house no problem. You can set it to run for up to 15 minutes, then it will shutoff and the alarm will still be set.
If you're worried about anybody stealing the truck while it's running......that can't happen, even if you DO get inside, the second you touch the brake pedal it kills the truck and the alarm will activate.
You can even use it to cool down your turbo if you're in a hurry. If the turbo is too hot and you don't have the couple minutes to let it cool down, activate it, and walk away, simple as that!

Any good remote start will have the temp based timer, but I dont know of any with a time based timer. anything by DEI is good (viper, python, rattler, etc.) I also like audiovox. Didnt you have a thread like this about a year ago?

similar principles - I have the Viper with the full LCD screen remote - has paging, etc if it goes off.

Remote start, and you can set how long it runs - I have mine set for 30 minutes. If I have one or more of the dogs with me and it's hot, just activate the remote start, turn the ign off and take the keys and arm it - runs for 30 minutes so they have A/C.

Another button combo on mine is the turbo cool down - runs for 90 seconds. Pull in on a hot day or after a hard run - activate that, take the keys and arm it. Vehicle is locked, runs for 90 secs then shuts down.

I added the window module as well - gives one touch down AND up on the front windows. If a window is not all the way up, when you arm it it rolls it up. After arming you can hit the button and crack the window in 1" increments if you want.

I install DEI products which include wasp, hornet, python, viper. Usually for remote start and security we use python or viper. They are very close in features. Most models have a wait to start light. They can either tap into the light on the dash, or the programming can be set to a default time. You can also lengthen your crank time if your truck doesn't always fire directly up. Run times can be set up to I think 15 mins. There is a new python out, model 872, that beeps when your remote start time is getting low and you can restart your time without killing the vehicle. That's a new feature as well as what's jokingly nick named "beat down" mode. Lets say you park your truck in the carport and don't want an alarm waking neighbors, silent arm it and keep your controller near you. If somebody sets the alarm off they won't know it but your controller will beep. Go beat them down. If you have more than one truck you can put this same model alarm on both and use one remote to switch between car1 and car2.

Those are some nice features. Could you post some model #'s, and your recomdations for us. With all this talk about alarm's I'm really thinking about getting one myself.

Back when I was installing I was told by a DEI rep that viper and Python were IDENTICAL to each other. They came out with two lines so that two different stores in the same sales area could sell the product. DEI has restricted sales areas. At any rate, is that 872 the new one that has the remote that is shaped different then any of the ones in the past but it feels like a toy?

EDIT: Yep, the 872 was the one I was thinking it was. I would love to have it on my truck, but I just ended up saying **** it and just replaced my 871 remote instead

thanks a lot guys, i got more help here then i did in the electronics section..

Yes I did have a post like this about a year ago..and i bought one that someone had recomended and didn;t like it. didnt work unless you were close to the truck, and it didnt have none of the options to turn on the runnins lights windows and what not and I got a little tight on money about january of last year so it was the first thing to go, now i am looking into getting a new one that is a little nicer....i wish Travis had a model number!! id be very interested in that one..i have recently been looking into a turbo cool down timer.
