I personally run a regular Spicer U-joint in the front axle shafts without any problems, have broke 2 35 spline outers and a couple lockouts with factory inners and Spicer u-joints.. no need to spend big $ on CTMs if the shafts break first..
Thanks, this is some good news, the cash flow is drying up fast.
Yes a sterling is a ford axle. I don't remember what year they started using them, but I got mine out of a 85. Its been a very good axle for me. All I did to mine was regear it and weld the spiders up. No problems yet.
Kickingber, the 14 bolt I found got sold before I got there and since Ive got so much invested in my rear end Ive just decided to run it till something breaks. I just swaped in a 460 so it probably wont be long but so far the only problem Ive had is the bolts on the drivers side rear hub all backed out on me the other day but I noticed it before any of them broke. In the mean time Im keeping an eye out for a 1 ton. The Sterling is another good choice. Its in all the late model super duties.

Ronzi, I belive I'm going to go ahead with the power lok, like you I've put a fair amount of $$$ in the dana 60 to just remove it now, I found a rebuilt power lock for 150.00. So i think I'll try to run it until I can find a sterling and build it. 150.00 seems like a good deal, right? any way thank you and everybody else for your help and insight. I learned a lot with this trend and your guys know how.
Ive never used a power lok but that seems like a decent price. I paid 6 something for a detroit locker. From what Ive read the power loks are ok and easy to set up. I guess as long as you know the 60 aint all that in the back of your mind you wont be so hard on it and it'll probably last. Thats what Ive been doing but ultimately I want to be able to not worry about it and have that bullet proof feeling with my drive line.
