Has anyone used one of these for the HPOP yet. I saw some online that were oil filled gauges, would that be the right one to use.
If not where can we get one?
Gauges for these kind of pressures are commonly used to monitor hydraulic circuits. I use on on my off-road truck to monitor winch load.
I would see no reason why they wouldn't work to monitor HPOP pressure.
The oil filled portion is only the dial assembly, for lack of a better explanation. This oil does not mix with the fluid being monitored. I believe oil filling gauges helps keep the needle steady.
Yes, oil filled is to damp the needle. You can see the liquid inside the case since there's usually a little air bubble at the top of the gauge face.
Damping is usually needed in hydraulic circuits because of the fast pressure spikes due to the intermittent discharge nature of pumps. Un-damp gauges look like a blur.
I ran a temp one to check HPOP output once. Had the line made long enough to pop out of the hood in front of the drivers seat and tied down the hood in front so it would not pop up. I think about putting one in permament to see what the HPOP adrenaline is doing, just for the heck of it.
5000 psi Glycerin filled is what you want.
I made up my 'temporary' gauge to troubleshoot some issues I was having. It's been there working fine for almost 5 years now...
Oh, and I don't have to remind you that it MUST stay outside the cab, right????? If something blows you don't want 3000 psi of 200* oil spraying you down!!!

Thanks for the photo and the glycerin filled tip as well.
Wasn't worried too much about the oil spraying as I was about 3000psi can cut through you w/o you realizing it. All you need is a pin hole leak really. At least that's what I've been told since working on jets in the Navy so that's one thing I'll take someones word on. Really not one to see if that'll really happen!!!
I did see some gauges on e-bay for 20 bucks but not sure if there Glycerin inside or not. Did you have to go to a hyd shop to make a hose for you?
That gauge in the pic is from Northern Tool, probably not the best name around whatever it is but works fine.
I have another gauge I got from a hyd shop, paid $35 for it, good quality it appears. I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for so make sure you can work with whoever is selling it on eBay if there's a problem with it.
Yes, I went to a shop and had a hose made up. Make sure it's rated at more than 5000 psi and can have oil temps over 250*. I forget what the normal specs are but it's in the higher end for both catagoies for that hose.
Thanks for your help, so the Northern tool gauge should be fine which is good to know. Don't really do too much with e-bay as it is just saw they had one on there is all. I'll check out Northern tool this weekend.
Thanks again Reps sent
