I'm thinking of installing a volare suspension this year, the engine is a ford 302 with a front sump. will this interfear with the suspension crossmember?
The other item is the power steering pump.
Do I need the chrysler pump or just use the ford pump.
Thanks, I wasn't sure about the pan. I guess I have to find the right oil pickup tube and pan. Do the rear sump pans have a dip stick built into them? Right now I have the toyota sterring box and it seems a little hard to turn the steering wheel. You can turn it with one hand but not like my dodge pickup.
I do enjoy all the Q & A on this site.
I did a short discussion thread on the adjustable valve in here about 3 years ago...but when i get home tonight I'll get the proper brand name and part # for it. The valve has a **** on it that lets you adjust the pressure to the box from full down to whatever.
One of the hot rod mags ran a short " tech article" on it back then as well.
We tried to do an in depth analysis of the pressure output of the various mfgr's power steering pumps about 3 or 4 yrs ago but we ( the forum) just couldn't seem to get the data.
RB's was an outfit that sold hot rod parts - (blue and peach coloured cover on their really thick catalog) but I think they went out business last winter. They didn't make the vavle, they only sold it, so I'm sure other still do. Not even sure if you really need it, but I love spending money on parts.....
Dip stick in pan or block ? Can't remember - will check when I get home tonight.
I have a rear sump pickup tube that I believe was out of a Bronco (289 or 302) Now all you'd have to do is find a pan! Let me know if you're interested.
You don't necessarily have to use a rear sump pan, it all depends on your motor mount setup. Since you are installing this IFS new then you'll also have to install the mounts so you can put them where you need them. Here's a pic of my truck with a front sump pan...
My 5.0 is from a 1990 F150 and it has the dipstick coming out of the block.
That adjustable power steering pressure valve that I got from RB's is actually made by/for Heidt's Hot Rods and they currently advertise it for $85.00 They actually call it " Adjustable steering pressure valve " As I said, not sure if it's even necassary, but what the hay.....
I seem to recall that old thread, but Idon't know if my Ford pump makes too much pressure or not enough. Sometimes when good and hot, steering wheel is harder to turn than usual...
