when i am in 3rd or fourth gear (aod trans) and i let off the gas, it coasts a little bit then it feels like a jake brake (puts load against the engine to slow down an engine without pushing a foot brake)
it sucks alot because going into it isn't that bad but coming out of the braking period is rough and makes a loud clunk noise (probably the rear end).
i am almost certain this is caused by the TPS but i want some input before i get one.
because the tps controls the engine speed theoretically speaking, the trans linkage is also connected so if the tps is doing some other dumb thing, it moves the linkage for the transmission.
otherdays the truck runs fine and doesn't do this at all until it gets hot
aod isnt controlled by the computer so it sounds more like your TV cable needs adjusted. I suggest going to a shop to have this done, if not done properly your tranny will burn up very fast. also get the fluid/filter changed if its been 20K miles or more since last being done. and dont drive in OD unless you are going 55mph or more.
also pull codes if you feel a sensor is causing an issue. dont throw parts at it hopeing to fix a problem this is expensive and silly. www.fordfuelinjection.com has instructions for pulling codes using a paperclip and counting flashing.
its been 6500 miles since the filter was changed and a tranny flush was done.
i adjusted the cable already to best suit the shift pattern to the RPM's.
i already know that i should put it in OD manually when i am at 50+ mph
no codes are present and the check engine light is not flashing.
tire size is 31" but thats really not much different then the stock 235 tires.
when the throttle body opens and closes according to the pedal adjustment when driving, doesn't that change the way the transmission also engages with linkage going back to it?
if the tps was the problem a fault code would trip. just because the CEL isnt on codes can still be present. How did you pull codes because you should have gotten at least a systems clear code.
perhaps your adjustment of the tv cable isnt correct?
i haven;t pulled codes for over a year because nothing has flashed at me yet. the problem with the braking feeling has always been present since the engine and transmission were put in.
i adjusted the cable for the transmission many times in one day and i left it where the shift points were the most correct. otherwise it shifted too late and long or wrong RPM's or refusing to go in until i punched the gas.
its set as good as i can get it but 3rd is a little low 25mph +-3mph
when i do pull codes it doesn't do anything other then the basic turn the wheel one direction, hold a steady 2000 rpm, push brakes, put in gear, on/off ignition...
our mac mentor (updated through 2008) doesn't show anything conclusive to the problem
is there such a thing as lack or over voltage to the TPS? any adjustments under the throttle body where it is located? can i take it out and clean it? throttle body is really clean (took it off and let it sit in a pail of solvent for a weekend).
does the transmission fluid level have to be exact on the dipstick reading? what if the fluid level is over the full mark by 1/2"?
go to fordfuelinjection.com and pull codes using the paper clip method and count the CEL flashes.
being overfull by that much wont cause anything. on my 88 with an AOD i recall when i came out of od into 3rd it would decelerate alot. the gearing jump from od to 3rd is pretty significant and if your motor has good compression that will also affect how the vehicle slows down.
the tps can be adjusted, look at that website i posted and read up. lots of great info for troubleshooting.
