Just pulled back into work after going to dinner to find my truck gearing higher than normal. I look down on my dashboard and see the check guages light on along with the tow/haul light flashing on and off. Then I notice that the tranny temp guage is all the way at the bottom. This seems to me like a sensor problem to have all these things go wrong at once but wanted a second opinion, has anyone else had this happen before?
I have never had that happen, but have read many posts on here that did have it happen.
The causes range from a plugged tranny filter, to low on fluid, to a bad sensor in the tranny or a bad selenoid. I think one guy had a wireing harness issue to??
I know one thing, if and when it happens to me, right to the dealer or a tranny shop I trust.
Sounds to me like there is a problem with the TFT or the wiring going to it. With the Tow/Haul light flashing there should be some codes stored in the TCM, so I would start there with a code reader from a parts store if you dont have one.
Dealer said it would be over a week for them to fix it (they have only 1 tranny person working), so I got a new temp sensor and some mercon sp and she is parked in the garage to cool so I can drain the tranny and drop the pan to replace the sensor. If all goes well that is the majority of the replies that I have gotten to solve the problem.
Dealers don't usually fix much when it comes to transmissions, they usually will give it a quick "once over" and then recommend you purchase a rebuilt transmission.
Knock on wood, that was pretty easy.
11/2 hours, pretty straight forward. Just like the guys said , when you pull the sensor out more fluid comes gushing out so dont have your head under it when that happens. Only have driven it 20 miles but it should have showed if there was an more probs. Thanks to all.
75$ sensor
10 qts of SP for 50$
Saving over 500$ Priceless.........
