My '77 F250 has a newer engine. Not sure type.
A sticker is on the valve cover front passenger's side.
Does the 80 in the center mean 1980? What does the rest mean?

get a supermotors account and copy the link to the pics here.
a 77 f250 would have a few different motors depending on 4wd or 2wd. most common was 351m and the 390 in 4wd models. 2wd models had 302, 351w and 300-6's. some had the 351m and 390 also. get a haynes manual it will give you good references on how to ID the motor.

The image is there, small, and you have to click on it to get a bigger image. Click again and it zooms in. Nice pic, except the hoses are in the way and you can't really see all the numbers on the sticker.
Look for another silver looking sticker with emissions info on it.
The valve cover looks like 351m or 400.
Post 7 here tells the valve cover bolt count tale:

BTW, it is NOT a 351W or an FE motor.

Page 9 of my Chilton shows the label. After the letters OJ 9
(the engine was made in 1980) are the numbers 579, this I think tell engine size but can't find a chart or any thing to decode it.
THIS IS A REPLACEMENT ENGINE.
