Tachometer was optional for 1986 and mine has most factory options including power windows and door locks My F150 didn't come with a tachometer from factory but installed a factory tach myself from another 1986 donor truck.
Yes, this is in KPH since the truck is made for canadian roads (think it might even have been assembled in canada, but not sure).
100KPH = 61MPH
In this case most of the high speed cruising is happening at 113 KPH or 70 MPH.
I've taken it up to about 100 once, but since the speedo runs out at 85 its hard to say. I don't think I was even in 4th on that drive. And NO, I am not making a video of that!!!! Cops have been known to cruise the tube for evidence like that.
I wasn't really planning to build a road warrior, but if you want to turbo charge and use crazy tall gears, the top speed does go up on paper. My real goal was fuel economy.
I wasn't pushing it either, only moderate acceleration. Didn't hit the floor once on this drive.
Thinking of doing a 0-60 test next time. I'll have the fan turned down so you can hear the turbo a little better.
There are a few videos on Utube that show cars going insane speeds on public roads (not gonna post those). One guy in my province posted a video showing himself driving something like 300+ KPH at night on a public road and was busted a few days after a local news channel put the spotlight on his Utube video. He was something like 17 years old and had a ricer with antlers on the back, body kit, neon lights and a whole mess of other crap that was cost more than the car itself (which was new at the time).
All that was ever shown in his video was the **** pit view of his gauges and the road. No faces, no voices and no license plate.
Because of street racers, all sorts of special powers have been awarded to police officers and many of them go too far. If you get caught pulling a stunt like that, it can result in a criminal record, instant 24 hour driving suspension, siezed license, and in some cases, your vehicle will be seized and destroyed. Much of that is without ever going before a judge. Reminds me of the road tax patrol that Dave often tells us about in his state.
If they wanted to catch you, they can. After they do, you are at the mercy of their rules and its not a pretty sight when you consider how the rules are set up.
That kid was stupid though. He bragged about it on facebook and they got his identity from there. I don't have my last name online here, but with some digging, they could find me no problem.
Theres no way I am going to try to make a video of my truck topping out even if I was crazy enough to try it. Tires are only rated to 106 MPH anyway.
Dave posted a caclulated top speed once and it would probably never reach that even on a salt flat.
Well it seems there aren't many Utube videos out there with our beloved IDIs in them so I made some more today. I hope the turbo spool sound comes through a little better in these.
