I didn't use lock washers on mine, just flat washers, and I haven't had a problem but lock washers are a very good idea.

Umm, on Ed's site, it lists the covers for the differential covers for various engine sizes differently.

Exactly what is the difference between covers for a diesel and a V-10, for example?

I used standard grade 5 cad plated bolts from the hardware store and flat washers. I painted the cover and then sanded the fins back to raw aluminum. The bolts stand out and look great. It has been two years and through two winters still looks great and no loose or leak issues. It cost me about $7.oo.
