Wanting to put a little bigger tire on the truck. Its a 2004 F150 2WD. Currently has 265-70-17's. Looking to replace on stock 7.5" wheels with Nitto Terra Grappler 285-70-17's which is almost a 33" tire. 32.6" or so.
Can this be done on a 2WD truck without a leveling kit safely? No rubbing? I've tried to search and research some, but I'm not really finding an answer...so I'm hoping there are some first hand experiences out there.
a 2wd comes from the factory with a 32" tire in the Lariat trim
you'll be fine. that tire is only 11.2" wide. the rubbing becomes a problem at 12" wide when on the OEM wheels. 32.6-33" tire should fit rather nicely in there IMO

The fact that my truck is not a Lariat trim truck would not matter correct? I just dont want to buy a tire that will rub when I make a turn ever at all like making a U-turn or anytime you might be turning the wheel a good bit!
the suspension on all of the 4x2 trucks is identical unless you have a Heavy Duty version
the only difference is that a Lariat has fender flares and yours doesn't.
You will be perfectly fine.
For peace of mind, crank your current tires from lock to lock and look at the clearance you currently have on your 32" tires (265/70/17). the tires you want to put on will only add 1/2" of height and <1/2" of width to the current measurements
Well I'm not sure the difference in height of 4x4 or 4x2 but I just had 285/70/17 Firestone Destination ATs put on my truck last week and they only rub if I turn lock to lock and hit a bump, which is every time I back out of my driveway so I had to put a leveling kit on.
I put a 1.5" AS leveling kit on today and everything is great! It gave me an excuse to buy the leveling kit
