I just finished installing the Dynatrac free spin hub kit on my 2000 Ford and after driving only approx. 15-20 miles I noticed the RH front hub was very warm to the touch. The LH hub was warm but not as much. My question is this warm temperature normal for a new installation? I greased and torqued everything to Dynatrac's specifications. I jacked the front end off the ground and both wheels seem to spin easily with no noticeable brake or bearing drag. Would appreciate any thoughts you all might have on my situation.

I havent put one of those kits on, but am very familiar with the bearing setup. Take the hub back off, and retorque the spindle nut, on both sides. Since they are new bearings, one side may have come a little more loose then the other. Hopefully the dynatrac kit comes with new, and used bearing torque specs. If not, retorque to spec. Take for another drive. Pay attention while re-torqueing, if one side moves more then the other. You may find your answer.

Thanks for your input. I kind of thought that the bearings may have been too tight. I redid the RH side and loosened the bearing slightly and ran the truck. The hub remained stone cold after 15 miles. I plan to do the LH side today.

Good deal, let us know how you make out with the other side. That style of bearings will cease your front axle whoas for quite some time. Some day I may even do mine. For now just the fun truck I built has that style.

Hey that truck of yours looks pretty tough. I imagine you can go just about any place with that rig. I did retighten the LH side and it also runs cool now. The thing I had to do was loosen the inner nut enough so when I tightened the outer nut it did not load up the bearing too much. The fold over tab that goes between the inner and outer nut has enough slack in it that when you tighten the outer nut it seems to also want to tighten the inner nut. Anyway it seems fine now. The inner nut needs to be set to the spec. Then the outer nut is just a jam nut. You run it in by hand, untill it hits the inner nut, then snug up just ever so slightly. Enough to have it hit a spot were the fold over tab can lock it into place. Its all it takes. As far as that truck goes, someday when I finish it it wont be a pavement queen lol. for not its unlicensed, so its a parking lot queen haha. But i need to add lockers, to help me use the capability of it. should be fun. you cant tell, but i built those beadlock wheels, and had someone sandblast and paint them. he did a dang nice job.

My DynaLoc hubs would be intermittently warm or cold, so at first I thought the second nut may have tighten up the main nut slightly. After staying cool for while I left them alone and chocked it up to brake heat. It's been almost a year and 10,000 miles later my local 4x4 shop (Carl's 4WD) just today had to tighten 1/2 turn on each bearing while fixing an alignment issue for me. Enjoy your DynaTrac!!!! Doesn't your truck drive faster now? I know mine does
