Truck Died

My Ford died today. Briefly...........
What do you think caused it. Here's how and when it happenend and what I found.

I was slowing down to make a turn and the car behind was riding my a$$. As I made the turn I got on it and was really trucking when all of a sudden it died and the "service Engine " light came on. The motor just quit pullig although. still running and RPMS wouldn't go up. As I pulled off the road the motor started pulling again and "service engine light went off. So I went back on the road and about a mile later it sounded like I dropped a rod or valve. Luckily I was only about a couple of miles from home. While driving home i figured "oh well 322,000 miles never at a dealer, never stranded ***** happens. The more I drove the louder the rapping got. I figured I had some MAJOR problems.
When I got home I popped the hood and the fan belt had split down the middle and half of it was still attached to the half that was on the remaing half and had been beating on the underside of the hood and toasted all of the hood insulation above it, THATS what was rapping, the othe half that broke free was wrapped around the tensioner

Do you think the belt caused the SERVICE ENGINE light? Or something that caused the Service Engine light caused the belt to break.

I put my spare belt on ,changed fuel filter and truck runs FINE .

Could a bad belt tensioner cause the belt to walk off the pulleys???

The belt that was on it at the time was almost new (6,000 mi) . The old belt had split also.

The Service Engine light is whats throwing me. For a few minuts I thought I would start having to drive the DMAX

I'd put a pair of safety glasses on and stare at the belt from each side to see if you notice it tracking wrong. A bad tensioner, bad pulley, or bad bearings in any of the pulleys can cause the belt to track wrong.

Don't think the belt and SES are related though. Did the motor keep running but you lost pedal response? You said the RPM's wouldn't go up. Did they drop back down to idle, or just hold steady?

RPM's went down to idle and held steady. Then the went up slowly and truck was running fine. No fuel smell in oil , no maynoise in oil, no oil in anti freeze. CPS has about 35,000 mi on it. . I've been thinking maybe the Banks chip is crapping out again and everything that happened is coincidental.
The belt does track true,

Either you've got a really cheap belt or something is off somewhere. If the belt looks good, what about trimming off the good half of the split belt and watch it run to see if it tracks straight. Also watch to see if the tensioner is bouncing too much. Otherwise it's just remove the belt and spin each pulley by hand to see if one sounds or feels funny.

For the other issue, I'd say get the codes read. Sounds like either TPS or IVS issue from your description.

Could your hpop be getting weak causing your injectors to starve for oil and the engine die when you got on it hard?

Hard to say. I just took truck to store and romped on it. No issues. In fact I have never taken it easy and romp on it 80% of the time , I have done it since new. Perhaps fuel pump? It's oem.

I have been thinking maybe when belt shredded ,a piece got between the CPS and the dampner

If your last belt split and this new one did after only 6K mile I would follow Chris's suggestion and see if anything is wobbleing around.

You can take a piece of wood, and touch every piece that the belt runs around (with engine running of course ) and check for any vibration coming through the wood. This is how I found my bad tensioner.
