OK, While at RRE, I did the Dyno. My numbers were 362 HP & 597 TQ. My question is. When starting the run, the operator told me to take my truck out of OD and run up to 60 mph then stump it. At 60 mph, not in OD, I am running 3200 rpm. Would this be a proper Dyno run?
Thats what I was thinking. I wonder what the operator was thinking. I guess I was on the back side before I even started the run. That was the first time for a Dyno, so I just listened to what he said. I know that will not happen again.
For all intents and purposes, ANY dyno run *should* be done with the transmission in a 1:1 gear ratio. This is 4th gear on a 5 speed, 5th gear on a 6 speed, and 3rd (O/D OFF) on a 4R100.
The reason that folks like running O/D is that the increased load helps the turbo spool better and results in slightly better torque numbers, especially on inertia only dynos like the Dyno Jet 248C. Load dynos such as Superflow and Dyno Dynamics can load the truck as much as needed so spooling is not an issue.

Take care.
Bill, is starting the run at 3200 rpm the way to do this? That is out of the 7.3 power ban, is it not?

numbers were higher in O/D but my tires crinkled like dragsters do "said the guy standing at my door at rre telling me what to do" so he made me stop my run, the only thin about doing it in OD is you can run forever!, it will just keep climbing and climbing.
That's WAAAAY too high to start the run. Here's what my numbers looked like, and you can see the RPM range for yourself:
Thanks Joe, mine starts around 3200 rpm. You can tell on yours that you are starting to go down at 3200 rpm. I wish I would have known better at the time, or was paying more attention.
