I ran a guy in an older built chevy yesterday and my speedo went crazy for a second; I have a chip in it now that I eliminated the top end limiter with so I've never been quite that fast with this truck before so I don't know if it was normal or what. When I topped 100 the needle stayed there for a few seconds and then it dropped all the way back to 0, I guess we were going about 110-115 when it did it and I had to back out because of the RR tracks ahead so I don't know if the needle would have stayed there or not. Have you guys that run your trucks hard seen this? Is it normal or is mine crazy? It's been fine since then, everything seems normal I'm just wondering. Thanks.
Nope no lights came on, nothing changed except the speedo dropping back to zero. Don't worry Bigbear it's an old two lane road that's always dead except during to-an-from work times, I rarely drive like that anymore and most places I wouldn't even consider it.
the 99 v10 truck in the fleet had a crazy speedo. Got so back we had to use the tach to guess the speed. Finally just changed out the cluster. The miles are not right, but an old truck with way over 100k, does it really matter ?
The speedo is driven off a sensor in the rear end... you may have had the thing spinning so fast that it was having a hard time reading the signal. If the problem doesn't come back or isn't consistent, I wouldn't worry about it.
Shade dont get me wrong I have done the same thing many times,
especialy when a chevy is involed.
What was the outcome?
Had a bad day
He stood in it as soon as we came around a small curve so he had a jump to begin with but I caught him in fourth gear and he couldn't leave me. The road was really a little too narrow to pass at at that speed anyway all I was trying to do was stay there so he can't say he 'walked away' from me. I was actually kinda proud of my truck, I know that guys chevy and it's far from stock and fairly quick for an 80's crackerbox truck.
(I really don't drive like that very often anymore, it burns too much fuel!)
