Issues with Excel
These issues have come about because I changed to a medical plan that uses a Health Savings Account. In order to track what's going on with the bleeping thing, I copy the data from various web pages into Excel. Then I can organize it a bit.
Anyway,
1. Hyperlinks -- web pages are always full of these. I can right click each cell and remove them, bur I'd like to find a way to do at least a column at a time.
2. Number and date formats. I simply cannot force some of the currency and date data into anything that Excel will recognize as numeric. I've never had this much trouble. I've tried paste/special/value, =value(cell),= datevalue(cell), and other tricks. Excel insists that the data is text, so I can't do any math or date sorting. I've actually just reentered the data in some cases -- sort of defeats the purpose.
I could probably save the web pages as .csv(s), but these would probably be messy.
Any thoughts?
the format part, I take it you've tried "formatting cells" I've had luck where I format a whole column.
I use 2003 and when I print reports to excel my numbers always come in as text. When I click on any of the cells with text numbers in them, a little box with a triangle in it and a drop down arrow appears to the left of the text cell. I click on the drop down and choose the options "convert to number". I can even highlight an entire column or columns and change them all to numbers as long as the 1st cell I have highlighted is one of the cells with the text format number.
I've tried the =value and various formulas but none of them have worked.

forgot about this..it also work in Excel 2007
And yes, I've tried the format.
I'm using Excel 07 for this -- -- it was the only one I could buy new when I was looking.
Off topic mini rant -- I really hate the Office 07 'Ribbon' interface, and I minimize it most of the time. I can remember some of the older keyboard shortcuts and I use them. Why did they screw up a fairly useful interface -- that everyone was used to. I'm surprised that they don't remap the qwerty keyboard
