I am having no luck finding the correct EGR valve for my 83 I6 300 4.9L 3/4 ton light duty 1brl. My local ford dealer was no help; "if there is no writing on the sticker I can't tell you which one it is". Here is a picture of the one I on the truck, as far as I know it's the one that came with the truck.
There are at least 50 different valves that would fit.
And it's got to be the right one.
The only thing I can suggest is take that one off, go and buy an aftermarket one, like the one you have, (I believe there are two different ones, so that's a 50% chance) and then match the washer on the inside of the valve with one of the washers that come with the new valve. The aftermarket EGR valves are calibrated with washers that you have to press and hammer in, so they can sell 2 or three valves, that fit 50 different applications.
I have installed aftermarket units just like the one you have (came from NAPA I believe) It comes with a bunch of washers with different size holes. You look at a charrt that comes with it and take the oem # to pick the proper orfice. If your egr is bad you should be able to go to napa and get one and put the same washer/orfice that you have now

81-F-150-Explorer hit the nail on the head, you should be able to visually match the aftermarket washer to the opening on your OEM EGR.
Had the same problem on my 84 F250 300, I got a aftermarket EGR and put in the "washer" for my app, it ran like crap. I had to try several "washers" before I got my engine running really good. The one "washer" I used was half sized hole than what they said it needed.
A good parts person should have no problem getting the correct EGR valve, but if possable bring in your old one to compaire, thats what I did....then above fun begins...
