No start

My 2000 5.4L 2wb excursion sudenly will not start now. Engine turns over but appears to have no fire (I guess). I do not hear the fuel pump spin for a second or two when key is turned on. Also, the miles to empty LED on the ceiling says zero but fuel guage shows 3/4 full. I am sure that 3/4 fuel guage is correct. Hand held scanner does not show any errors. Suggestions?

If you have no fuel pressure I would suspect the fuel pump took a dump.

So you do not hear it priming? You can find the Schrader Valve on the fuel line under the hood. The lines are chrome and the valve, I think, is on the passenger side. Open it with a screwdriver or something. Fuel should squirt out if you have fuel pressure.

Check the fuses before you drop the tank though.

Start with monster's suggestions. But have you done or had any work done to it recently? If you have a really bad vacuum leak or the MAF is not connected it can cause a no start too. You might try disconnecting the electrical connector on the MAF to see if it's a sensor malfunction.

Also, if you don't hear the pump, check the emergency shut off (Check your owners manual), and if the pump still doesn't run, tap the bottom of the tank with a rubber mallet a few times and see if it will spin up.

The only thing that has been done recently is that the starter soleniod was replaced a couple of weeks ago. I have probably put around 500 miles on it since it was replaced.

My brother tells me that there is an emergency fuel shutoff switch under the hood. What side and can somebody send me a picture of what it looks like?

Ice, if you read my post from yesterday, I told you to check the emergency shut off (2 posts above). It is on the passenger side kick panel by the floor. It shows you in the owners manual on page 137.

Cardiac,

Chill dude. I read your post this morning at work and don't have access to the owners manual at this time, hence the question of where is it.

I hit the emergency fuel pump shutoff reset button a couple of times. Same thing, will not start. Pressed the schrader valve and no fuel came out. I do need to make a correction to my original post. Gas gauge sits on empty not 3\4 full (incorrect info from my brother in law). All fuses look good. Any more suggestions?

Check the ground on the fuel pump and sending unit. There was a post in the SD forum about ford bolting the bed down and pinching the wires. The wires abraded through and shorted out.

Does it have a PATS (security) ignition key? Does "theft" flash rapidly on the dash as your cranking it? If so, the PATS key or tranceiver might be faulty or lost its memory. There is also a fuse for this that causes the same symtom. Had both hapeen to me recently. Hope that helps.

Does it have gas in it? if the gauge is reading empty and the trip computer says zero.......
Sold my wifes car a few weeks ago and the woman got in to drive it off and put it in drive and it would not go... she said the check engine light is on... Then I pointed out to her she needed to actually start the engine first for it to go anywhere..... she was just a bit embarrassed
When I worked at a John Deere dealer we did like $2000 of work on this guys tractor got it running perfect , he picked it up and promptly returned the following week complaining it wouldnt start or run A quick check of the gas tank revealed that he had run out of gas after using it for several hours....
