Anyone got any advice on performance or power mods for the 09 with the 5.4L? I was looking at maybe a cold air intake or Superchips programmer. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'd read your owners manual first, there is a section in there about the truck having recording devices, on is only downloadable after and accident and records brake and gas pedal usage etc. and another that is downloadable at any dealer and records all running parameters, computer parameters etc and I think I read (will have to check again) if you have sync it will send the dealer the info. So I'am a little afraid to put on a programmer.
Yeah I just finally got an owners manual for it...there wasn't one in it and they ordered me one in. I haven't even cut the plastic off it yet so I'll read it tomorrow. I do have Sync so that's no good.
It is on page 6 and 7 of the owners manual. It seems that if your don't activate the vehicle health report, then it won't send it to Ford but it still will be recorded.
as for the CAI I would just be concerned what the dealer would say when you went. I took mine in after having 1 day so they could do some due list items, and the first thing they did was open the hood and inspect the engine. You could ask your dealer their opinion. but I am too concerned to try it till my warrany runs out.
well i know the 4.6 would have one but, since i don't have one and only look at pics,it does look the same, but the 5.4 on the side of the airbox is a small snorkel like funnel that limits air flow into the box and since it only snaps into the box it can easly removed
and if the dealer ever does find that it is removed just play dumb..since you can't see its missing in less you take the filter out
We just released 09 coverage today so your covered with Superchips. Our dyno tests showed gains of +38 RWHP and +57 RWTQ with our 91 setting while still keeping the vehicle emissions legal.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Here's a question that has been asked, but never really answered.
Recent vehicles are harder to flash without the dealership finding out (especially diesels). Assuming the vehicle is deprogrammed before being taken to the dealer, can they tell beyond a reasonable doubt that the vehicle has been flashed? I know there are some adaptive relearn codes present, but what other clues would be present?
Also, the 09s equipped with SYNC have the Vehicle Health Report feature (which I haven't enabled yet). Enabled or disabled - will the VHR tell Ford/the dealer that the PCM/TCM is running a non-stock program?
I've asked these questions a few times, but have yet to get a good response.
Also, can you provide the dyno charts for the various programs on the 09 F150? Quoting numbers is great... seeing the actual curves would be far better.
We have the same tools the dealerships use to update customers vehicles and have not seen anything in their software that is capable of telling if a vehicle is programmed or not. including SYNC.
When chatting with a customer about returning to the dealership for service I usually tell them to return the vehicle to stock a day ahead of a service visit or with enough time to put some mileage on the vehicle prior to their visit.
The PCM then shows some driving memory in it's system rather than nothing due to the reset.
Here is what data I currently have on the product:
5.4L F150 tested:
91 Performance file produced +38 RWHP and +57 RWTQ.
87 Performance file produced +18 RWHP and +43 RWTQ
Tow file produced +12 RWHP and +37 RWTQ
4.6L F150 tested:
91 performance file produced +10 RWHP and +19 RWTQ.
87 Performance file produced +2 RWHP and +4 RWTQ
Tow file produced +3 RWHP and +5 RWTQ
Current options :
- 91 Performance, 87 Performance, Tow, and Save tuning options are available
- Shift point and Shift firmness adjustments
- Speedometer recalibrations available for tire size upgrades between 28" to 38"
and gear changes from 3:08 to 5.13 ratios.
- Speed limiter adjustability
- Rev limiter adjustability: 5.4L From 5500(stock) to 6000rpm's. 4.6L: from 6250 (stock) to 6500rpm's.
- Read and clear trouble codes
- Monitor and record driving & vehicle performance with advanced data logging with real time vehicle sensor display.
I will update the post with dyno graphs as I get them. Any questions on these options feel free to let me know.

OK. The only other question is the Vehicle Health Report - the contents of which seems to be a bit of a mystery. The VHR is sent to Ford via your phone upon telling the SYNC system to do so, so your dealer can get at least some data regarding a problem "as it happens".
Personally, I've never enabled VHRs, nor have I accepted the terms on the website. Nor will I, until I know exactly what's in those reports.
Can you expand on the 2-year powertrain warranty of the Cortex? This is certainly a unique idea, and would probably allay some fears. There isn't much detail about it on the website. What is it, how does it work (filing a claim, exclusions), etc.?
I received an email from a member on another forum earlier today about the same questions you are asking. The engineer claims that we have not had any issues with the SYNC or Vehicle Health Report.
We are aware of their purposes and made sure that before we released the product that it would not cause any of our customer’s problems.
The 2 year powertrain warranty (only available in the Cortex Model) provides the customer with an extra piece of mind in knowing that Superchips believes so much in their product that we offer the original owner of the product an additional warranty included in the purchase price that covers the vehicles engine and/or transmission up to a certain monetary value in the event that damage occurs while the vehicle is tuned that would not at that point be covered by the OEM warranty.
The warranty is for a 2 year period and is only valid o the original purchaser with a vehicle that has less than 100k miles.
Claims would be handled by the carrier providing the warranty. More info on this can be answered by our customer service department if you choose to inquire. Their number is 888-227-2447.
