I can't find a picture so I need help. The vacumn motor (56 f100) has a pivot which is shaped like an upside down V and on the end of each arm of this V is the pivot which the arm going to the wiper base on each side of the truck attaches. Does the connection from the drivers side attach to the nearest pivot (arm ) or does it cross to the far side of the upside down V?
Hey Julie, working on my brother in laws 36 Chevy pickup. On the firewall is a small electric/vacuum switch. In other words, a switch with 2 wires exiting one end, and a vacuum line going the other, with a small check valve in it. I can't figure out where this goes. The hose would reach the vacuum ports at the base of the carb (Edelbrock 600) No idea where the wires go. The wipers are vacuum, but motor is in the cab. There used to be a Quadrajet on there, and thought maybe the wires went somewhere on it. (there are already electric choke wires in place). Thanks. Sorry bout the hijack.

I have no clue. About as close as I could come would be that it was some type of vacuum sensor switch to turn something on or off - like an overdrive or transmission kickdown switch or something???????? Sorry.
Stupid question: Do you have anything that doesn't work?
Julie, thanks for the picture, Mine looks exactly like that EXCEPT the pivot arm at the motor has two arms instead of one. As I said before it is shaped like an upside down V, with the motor shaft attached in the center at the piont of the V and has two connection points which are app. 3" apart on the ends of each arm. Could be that is is not orginal. How do the wipers move on the windshield? parallel or opposite?

Well that's an interesting question because unless you had an Extra Cab, there was only supposed to be one wiper. on the 56 there were two. It's hard to see on th edrawing, but there are actually two arms on the drawing. There was one on e-bay but they have taken it off. Here is a picture of one of the car types from e-bay. I'll see if I can find a picture of the one like yours someplace:
Okay, so I think mine would pivot if my vacuum hose went anywhere. At the moment my hose is just dangling from the firewall. Where does that end reach to pull vacuum?
Are the wires your asking about electrical wires or wires in a sheath? Vacuum switches had a push pull motion to turn the wipers off and on. This is done with a solid core wires in sheath. I may have read your question wrong but think that may be the wires your asking about.

I don't see any stray wires that seem aimless or homeless connected to the vacuum, only a wayward tube. The bottom of the carb has two shiny silver plugs on the base. I suppose it is one of those? Besides a nipple to go into the carbs do I need anything else in there?
