The only hick is the one not able to spell. You must be ashamed of where you are from, no listing I see. I'm a Northwesterner, we don have hicks out here, that's for you Tennessee hillboys.
I want the car in your picture.... It looks like a Torino. I would also like an old galaxy. To drag of course. I tried to trade my son his 66 custom, but he wont. I am sure that car in your picture is long gone though...

1969 Cobra Fastback with 428CJ with Ram Air and C-6. I had both 3.00:1 and 4.30:1 pumpkins for it. Clocked by CHP at 144 mph at 5000 RPM with the 3.00:1 (the car would run 6500) and ran 14.07 quarter miles with street tires and the 4.30:1. Bought it new in November 1969 after returning from my second SE Asia combat tour, I deserved it. A year later I bought a Notch back one and turned it into a race car.
Not really sure what you mean by "ran like crap" . Lots of timing up to the point of pinging usually feels better. If you set it to the 12 deg and it ran like crap but did not ping like hell, then somethings wrong with the picture. What was the OEM setting on the sticker. I kinda doubt it was just 2 deg---now relax, I am not calling anyone a liar 12 may only be adding 2 degrees. That was a standard for anybody on earlier Stangs, add 2 to 4 degrees anytime. Without a knock sensor, the ecu probably adds timing by a load sensing method, maybe a LU table. So if 12 deg goes to 30 deg, that is probably the standard amount of degrees added by the ECU. So if you set at 14, it will go to 32 etc. These low comp smog engines can take ungodly amounts of timing at lower speeds and no load. I added so much on my old 460 (no ECU) that I couldnt stand the thought of it, so I backed it down. You do have to compensate for load and speed, which the ECU does.
Just about the time I get ready to get the popcorn, to watch Bear and Mustang start throwin rocks, they look like they are gonna kiss and make up-----damn!!. Bear, dont see how you even got down the track on streets and 4:30's. Our 69 cyclone CJ with 3:50's and streets had a totally useless 1st gear. Dont know what he turned, because I was in my vette turning 13.13's on streets. I did run his thru one time, but didnt hear what it turned.
Is there anyway you guys could start throwing rocks again? Popcorns ready------------

Now that I know you served, Thanks...
I run with a couple of guys, that have BB Torino's, and 1 guy has a BB Couger Eliminator. They both run mid to high 12vs.Close ratio 4 soeeds, I think the 1 Torino has 4:30's, but the Eliminator has 4:56s. My cars are in my Albums. I built a Plymouth, dont know why, but would gladly trade it for an old Ford.
I find it so hard to beleive that 2 degrees would make that much of a difference in drivability/ performance. On a 460?? That is why I would go down the power timeing road.
I bought this right after my first tour. 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT fastback. 390GT, Toploader 4 speed and 3.89 rear end fiberglass hood was part of the package.
Oh and 4.56 gears were not available from the thw factory. 4.30 is as low as they went.
Not even close. It's an 11:1 compression 428SCJ with forged pistons and 406, 3X2 manifold, carbs, linkage and air cleaner. It lived in this 1969 Cobra.
Early 427 intake isn't it? I had a 289 .030 over running 2 465 Holleys on the Ford 66 trans am manifold, I know what a Hi-Po 289 with 2 4s looks and sounds like. O, BTW, 12.40s with 3.89 gear and Detroit Locker. It was a 66 Shelby GT350 and would pull the front wheels. I was using a wide ratio T10 in it. This picture is from a slide taken of it's predecesser, a 64 Falcon. That's a 260 with 3 2s.
