Im looking to buy a grill for my 99 F-150. Billet grills appear to be pretty common and not too expensive. I did a little window shopping and noticed that you can either get bolt on or insert grills. The insert grills require that you cut the factory one out and it sounds like installation is more difficult. The bolt on does just what it says, bolts on, right over the factory grill.
My question, does anyone have either and if so how do you like it. The bolt on one cost more but im leaning toward it cause of easy installation and dont wanna mess with my factory grill. Just worried that the bolt on one may look funny if it doesnt fit real snug. So, anyone that has or has seen either installed tell me what you think. All commentary welcome.
Big6 - I've got a little experience with billet grills ('99 Ranger) that I'm happy to share. The first install required me to trim some plastic from my stock shell, drill holes and pop-rivet the billet grill in - no problem and it looked great. The second install (necessary because the first one got smashed by a Taurus), I ordered the grill and the shell and it went togather easily. Using the damaged original grill, I cut it to fit the opening in the valence nad bolted it there. It looks great and I'm happy with it. Good luck.

I'm in the process of putting the new "dagger" grill on my 2000 f-350. APC makes it. It's an outer shell and the billet goes in between it. it runs about $350 with the grill and everything and then you have to get it painted, but it wont cost that much more than the stock billet with installation costs. My friend has it on his already and it looks sweet.

I put a bolt on Billet Grille on my F250. Took about 15 minutes and fit great. It was made by Carriage Works and was less than $200. You can see it on the ride of the week picture on the home page.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Aug-02 AT 07:11 PM (EST)]I had a 1999 ford 250, that i had a custom billet grill put into. I didn't do it myself, the place i ordered it from cut out the old grill, and put in the billet grill. It looked sharp, and was litterally flawless, i would tell you to go with the one that requires cutting out the old grill, just because it looked so sharp, as though it came from the factory that way.
