Help!!! I'm trying to dye some hard vinyl (plastic) interior panels from a mid-seventies Ford. The vinyl dye I'm using is fish-eyeing very badly in some areas. I have already used degreasing cleaner, acetone, laquer thinner, and vinyl prep and still it fish-eyes.
Any other ideas on how I can get this stuf to stick before I go postal and do this to the panels.
You may have to use interior paint, it comes in a spray can, but is made for interior parts.
Dying hard plastic doesn't work so good, not porous(sp) enough for dye.
You may have to prep it like painting a exterior plastic piece.
Does anyone else have any experience with die or paint processes for plastic and vinyl? My ol' man and I are going to redo the interior of our airplane. The interior is vintage 1976 and not aging so well.
I know this thread is fairly old now, but I wanted to put in my two cents...just in case someone is still looking to find a way to do this and with good results.
I went to Wal-Mart and found some vinyl paint in a can that I used on my visors and headliner and it worked awesome. With the exception of my painting abilities, they look like they came that way. I used black over green. As far as cleaning prep, I just got rags and dish detergent and washed and rinsed it all up thouroughly.
