Wow, thanks for discussing this while I was resting peacefully. It sounds like there are a lot of good ideas. Cory (Ziggy) can speak on my behalf with regards to how the gauges are wired up because he's the one who did it . Clay did reccomend the seperate dimmer because he said the Isspro's are a lot brighter than the factory gauges and the seperate dimmer is there to bring them down to match.
I do have the auto light switch, but when I put the switch in the auto position it had no affect on the Isspro gauges, only the factory gauges. Again, remember that I was doing this when the sun was still fairly bright. I had to cover the sensor at the top of the dash with a rag to get the auto light switch to work.
I am confident that Cory has the gauges wired up correctly, otherwise they wouldnt work once its dark out. I wish I could say that I am equally as confident that my eyes aren't playing tricks on me. I will continue to mess with the rheostat position and switch positions to see if I can narrow it down. I really just wanted to rule out the possibility that the gauges have their own way of sensing when its actually dark outside seperate from the truck's sensor.
Thanks guys. And THANKS AGAIN Cory! Seriously, I love not being in the dark anymore with regards to what I'm doing to my truck.
Sorry I missed this thread, been on the road racing. Unless the gauges have spontaneously become self-aware and evolved on their own (think Terminator movies), they are not sensing the ambient light on their own. It sure sounds like the source for the separate dimmer is switching off with the auto headlight switch. In case it really has become self-aware, you might not want to turn your back on it
I THINK(?) He reccomends adding the dimmer Because they dim at a different rate then the dash. I don't want to speak for him though. I think it's to trim back the gauge lighting a bit when you have the dash lights on full power so they don't overwelm you.
Sorry I didn't see this earlier Bob. The EV2's come with the "Extra Dimmer" as part of the wiring. But that shouldn't have any effect on what is happening. When you wire them up I use the blue wire with red tracer for the lighting. Maybe you grabbed the one that is hooked to the day running lights? If you are still having issues give me a call, we will get it figured out.
