It never ceases to me amaze me that so many people walk into auto parts stores, buy the cheapest parts available for their 20+ year old vehicles, and then wonder why the parts don't last. You get what you pay for, folks. I work at an auto parts store and tell my customers all the time that buying the cheapest replacement parts available for their vehicles is a sure fire way of guaranteeing that they will be back at my counter sooner than later.
I work at an auto parts store as well...A huge part of the problem is that auto parts are unregulated. The aftermarket manufacturers are under no obligation to make sure their replacement parts are at LEAST as good as OEM. With that in mind, you could actually poop in a box and call it what ever replacement part you want, and some manufacturers do. The vendors don't care about how good the parts are, it's all about how many they sell relative to how many collect on the warranties, etc. Of course there is always the option for the customer to select the better part once he or she has been properly informed, but there's a lot people out there that just don't think so well. They buy the cheapest part and complain about what a POS it was, and do this over and over again...Never mind them fighting tooth and nail to avoid actually learning how to work on their car...They'll try and coax you out there and try and get you to change their battery, their fan belt, etc...they are the BIRD PEOPLE (cheap-cheap!).

Sorry for the rant...
We offer OE parts that are just as good or better than what came on vehicles. They don't always cost that much more, but too many people go with the lowest price. We offer battery changing where I work, but only if changing it isn't too involved. If panels have to be removed to get to it, we ain't touchin' it. We will also replace bulbs, but the same conditions have to be met. What gets me are the people who think we're supposed to be experts on all things automotive. If I were ASE certified I sure as hell wouldn't be working behind a parts counter making a fraction of what I could be making.
