I have a Accel superstock coil on my 351M and it works great haven't had any problems with it so far.
How long is "with it so far". I haven't had a problem with mine in 28 years. How long could I expect an accel superstock coil (how much and which coil) go before I have deeper problems like a burnt wiring harness?
It didnt do anything to the originial wiring harness that was a ratnest i only replaced the wiring harness since i was replacing the ignition module but other than that if your wiring harness is in decent shape you shouldn't have a problem. Its been on there for about seven months now.
I have a full md set up and Mallory unilight with pertronicks mod in it love this set up cause i now have 2-step O'my truck don't see 5k often but it is nice to know i have ign that handles 7k I

Again, go to the store and buy one, they sell them all day long at any parts store. I can post the same answers over and over too.
Yes, I have seen your post. And if I took my truck apart as much as I do to have it run as mediocre as it did when I started I would run right down to our auto parts store and pick up their FD476 coil that the counterman can't even tell me how hot it is or any specs off of it other that his book says it is the one for my truck. My whole point for being on this forum is to get better gas mileage and more power and make my truck more reliable than it was before. I am not on here to just be a parts swapper outer. So thanks for your advice, and it is noted.
I replaced my original (1987!) coil with a Standard Automotive Products (Blue Streak) FD476 coil last year.
I like it.
It fit exactly and has been fine.
Instead of going backward in time looking for improvement, what about some sort of stand-alone DIS system? I gotta say, since the manufacturers went that route we pretty much don't get calls for modules any longer at the parts store I'm at. DIS systems have modules, they just don't seem to fail that often. Now, coils for coil-on-plug configurations? That's another story.
Hijack a four year old thread...
Complain that you broke a brittle piece of plastic,
The stock coil lasted 32 years.
If you don't trust your parts guy go to another store.
(BTW, I've never had a problem with Blue Streak components)
Tell one of the most knowledgeable moderators on the forum that you don't really want to hear the truth.
Then you state that you want some miracle ignition component that is going to increase mileage, power and reliability???

I think you're trolling in the wrong pond Brown.
I didn't break any piece of plastic (Wha?)
I didn't tell anyone I didn't want to hear the truth.
Not looking for miracle ignition.
I have been around very knowledgeable mechanics my whole life, being
a merchant marine chief, and they ALL get pissed if you don't listen to them or do exactly what they say.
I thought I was very polite the way I stated what I was looking for, but you don't seem to want to let it go.
I think I am exactly the right pond. And it is big enough for both of us.
I think the tone of this exchange is getting out of hand.
We are ok. I am a stock guy when it comes to the DSII. If you guys want to experiment with different coils and plug gaps, go right ahead, just remember you are experimenting so keep an eye out for problems. Ford tried to shoot right down the middle, designing the system for many different types of conditions, and reasonable service life and performance.

Well, so much for the accel 8140C that was supposed to fit in my truck. The place where the main coil wire fits into is much to big. Sending it back and trying again. Nice thing about Amazon is I can send it back and they are very good about crediting it back to me.
My coil is an MSD Blaster 2. Have had it on the truck for a couple years without issue.
When I first took the DS3 system off this truck, I installed a Mallory Unilite and had two failed modules in two years. Gave up on that and installed a DS2 distributor and blue connector Motorcraft module. Not a single issue since.
Me thinks you are not using Motorcraft modules. Many of the aftermarket modules for the DS2 fail performance tests, even brand new right out of the box.

At the parts store I work at I had the chance to test three new ignition modules, all same application (grey TFI modules) from different manufacturers, and the only one that passed on our Borg Warner ignition module tester was the Motorcraft one. Not even Borg Warner's own module passed on their machine. Kinda scary I would say...
Back in the late 80's and 90's I really don't recall having that much demand for the Duraspark modules relative to the TFI ones, which would sell like hotcakes. Truth be known, we always sold more Ford modules generally, than GM or Chrysler.
You could run any coil with the DSII by just cutting off the horseshoe connector and replacing it with eyelet terminals. Solder and heatshrink wrap the joints and it'd be weatherproof.
I actually ran my old stock DSII coil with my MSD 6A before I got the Blaster 2 coil I have now, and it ran fine. I was a little wary of it since the DSII runs it at 7V and the MSD runs it at like 535V (or so the manual says), but it never gave me trouble.
And concerning DIS, I think MSD sells a kit for that.
It never ceases to me amaze me that so many people walk into auto parts stores, buy the cheapest parts available for their 20+ year old vehicles, and then wonder why the parts don't last. You get what you pay for, folks. I work at an auto parts store and tell my customers all the time that buying the cheapest replacement parts available for their vehicles is a sure fire way of guaranteeing that they will be back at my counter sooner than later.
