Up and running again
To Recap:
The back driver's side manifold bolt had broken off inside the head, resulting in low boost/power/fuel ecomony. Also my truck smoked badly on start up hencing maybe my injector o-rings needed replacing.
So this is what i did:
1. Removed manifolds fixed the broken bolt. I couldn't extract the bolt so i drilled it all out and helicoiled it. Actually all of my bolts were rusted so bad that they were fuzed to the manifolds. In order to remove manifolds i sawzalled the drivers side off between the manifold and the head. the passenger side I used a grinder since there's mroe room to work. Machined the manifolds and installed manifold gaskets abnd of course new bolts.
2. Relocated EGT thermocouple from DP to driver's side manifold
3. Replaced Glow Plugs
4. Replaced glow plug/ injector wiring harness (realized only 4 gp's were working)
5. Replaced CCV o-rings
6. Replaced valve covered gaskets
7. Sent injectors to RDS for a rebuilt. Originally was planning on upgrading to stage 1's, then decided to go to stage 2's. Reasoning - I was going to get new nozzles with the stage 1 rebuild even though it was not necessary. So decided to jump to stage 2's since it's same cost. I don't want to rebuild them again and I plan in time to fully utlized the stage 2's in time.
8. Got a PHP 6 position chip cause Jim at Rosewood spoke very highly of their tunes. Stock, high idle, whipser, 35 hp, 60 hp, 140 hp
9. Oh and changed oil of course.
I cost me about 2 grand for all of the above. All DIY work (except for injector rebuild).
Overall all the worked paid off. The truck runs much much stronger now. Actually it's no comparison to what it was. Can't wait to put a load on it. Hmm, may take the boat out this weekend.
I did set a CEL on 140 at WOT- i guess hencing a larger HPOP is in need.
I've only put 40 miles on it since all of this. I have noticed that it starts much differently now. the starter spins for about a second longer. And when the truck starts it is very quiet with low rpm's then lopes about 4-6 times then the rpm's will rise to idle. Then it idles very smooth. Any idea why this is? I was thinking maybe i still have some air in my oil. Plan on driving it for a bit to see if it improves.
Next step for me is to install my intercooler. But I can't seem to find the y-pipe for under 400 now a days.
i guess it's time to start filling in my signature since i'm accumlating some mods. Just have to figure out how.
Again, thank you everyone.
Pete
