My excursion thuds when it comes to a stop. I have replaced most of the front end...Drag link bar, ABS hubs, brakes and rotors, stabelizer shock, all 4 main shocks, had the tires rotated and an alignment. I have different mechanics all telling me different reasons. I just put $2000 into the front end because I was told that was where the noise was comming from and now that it has not fixed the problem, Im told its comming from the back end. I was told that the back end rolls a good 4" and that is not normal, to replace the leaf springs. Another ford mechanic said that 4" roll is normal and it's the slip yolk??? Whatever that is! A third ford mechanic said that it's the leaf spring bushings that are causing the problem. I really feel like I am being taken advantage of because I am a woman and have no clue about Ford Excursions. If you have any advice or ideas please let me know.
Thanks!
Renee
Have they greased the slip yoke? Mine did it until I had my mechanic do this procedure on mine.
The write up says when you put it in gear, mine did it when I stopped, and started even when rolling or from a full stop. Haven't heard it again since having it done 10 months ago.
I would think the post by Saddesigns is the correct fix for your problem. This is a common problem for some unknown reason. I seen this discussed by a drive shaft shop and on this forum also. Just one of those weird little quirks that happens.
