hard start, after IP put on.
and i got all the air out, and got it started.
after i got started initailly it would start fine the rest of that day.
yesterday and today, however, it has been hard to start.(having to crank for a lil while, at least 30 seconds((20 seconds on, 2mins off, 10 seconds on)) then it starts....
is this normal circumstance for new IP's?
and if its air intrusion, i wouldnt know how because every other time in my trucks life it had air intrusion it would start at first for a few seconds, then die, cuz it used up the fuel in the filter..... thats not what its doing now.
help!!!
How much fuel in the tank?
This might be a long shot....
But remove your sending unit from the tank and see if your pickup tube is even still there. If it is there, the bottom 1/4 of it is probably sitting on the bottom of the tank. Solution-Remove the rubberish material of a pickup tube and replace with enough regular rubber fuel hose to reach the bottom of the tank. Cut a "V" in the end of the hose so it doesn't suck right up to the tank and try to suck the tank wall.
If the bottom of the pickup tube is missing...the fuel level may be lower than the tube and cause the system to lose prime.
blueovalbud; as joe said y does everyone think its the pick up tube?? granted my pick up tube is broken at 1/4 tank mark onn the fron tank((and not the back)).... BUT the issue im having is the same no matter the tank thats in use.
and to answer ur last post, i dont think its the filter, therefore losing prime. beacuse; like i said, in the first post.... if that was the case then it would start right away for a second or two... then i would have to re prime it.( at least thats been my experience))
joe f350; I doubt the timing is off cuz, i did not remove the IP drive gear assembly when i removed and installed the IP's.
to add more to my first post... and help determione the problem... its sure having the characteristics of air intusion;i.e; the longer the truck is off, the longer i have ti crank to get it started....
and more than a couple hours calls for the same amount of cranking as if its over night.
but like i said... its wierd to me, cuz usually with air intrusions it would start rite away then die quickly then have to reprime....(but thats jus to my knowledge.... and is why im askin for help.. ))

No it is not normal....... there is air getting in somewhere and draining fuel from the IP and lines.
When you re installed the main fuel line from the filter header to the new IP did you replace the line seals on the ends of the steel line..... they can leak air in. Did you replace the fuel filter and fill it before putting the new IP on.....

ummm.. i dont know how to answer the other question..
what kind of timing is needed on a used IP??
all that i knew of was align the dowel pin/ with its hole.

did not replace seals on filter header line...
did not replace filter; however, the one on there is only like 6 months old.
and yes i did fill it with fuel. (dont see what that has to do with anything other than the initial start after the pump was installed)
