Hey all, I am going to need to replace my clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing soon. the pedal has to be like smashed into the floor for it to shift smooth...and when going into reverse it just grinds and grinds untill i slam it in So...I was wondering what I should buy for a clutch and all the other stuff...I cant spend to much money as I am 18 and got laid off all my summer jobs....I use the truck mostly as a DD but also like to have some fun driving it. I don't tow to much with it and when I do is is maybe 4k max. So what would you guys suggest for a clutch that will last a while but still serve me well...Thanks in advance!!
Well as far as clutch I would get a Valair. Save the money and do it right and be done with it.
Now, for your problem. I don't believe it is the clutch. My money would be on the clutch linkage. Look under the dash and follow the linkage that goes to push in the Master cylinder rod. There should be a pin with a plastic bushing on it that pushes the rod into the master cylinder. The plastic on the pin is probably so worn it is gone and the pin is worn too.
ok....so i looked under the dash...Is it the rod that also goes through the brake pedal or is it the pin that goes through the "eye" part of the rod that goes into the cylinder? hope that makes sense?...?
Knowing what I know now, I'd go with a Southbend over the Valair. I replaced a Luk with a Valair and can't believe how noisy this thing is. I used to leave the engine running if I was only going to be out of the truck for a short period but can't stand to listen to it, probably have to rebuild the starter in the near future from all the starting.
Search ebay for "ford clutch rod end Permanent repair"
will give you a Hiem Joint Replacement.
I have some pictures from when I did it, but none from it installed under the dash.
Its a pain, but worth it. Clutch is 10x smoother and I can get it into reverse 99% of the time now. Every now and then it argues, cause the bushings start to go bad after you've ground for a while.
